Contenuti/contents
The present 3 CREDIT MODULE II FOR INTERNATIONAL LEGAL ENGLISH is organized in the following way:
frontal lecturers
Written and oral production and practice.
B1 of the Common European Framework (CEFR) is the preferred starting level and B1+ /B2 should be the final level attained.
The program is based on the review of English language functions, grammar structures as well as to the introduction of the main lexical and structural elements of the English language for Jurisprudence-
How the Exam is structured
There is both a written and oral exam.
Both the written and oral exams are based on language structure and grammar.
The written exam will contain a reading comprehension test.
The oral exam will check student fluency, accuracy and knowledge of juridical terms and contents.

Prerequisites
B1 of the Common European Framework (CEFR) is highly recommended as B1 plus /B2 are the eventual target levels.
If the students lacks the minimum requirements, he or she is advised to seek out help before or during the course

Obiettivi formativi Learning objectives
The course aims at developing Global Legal language skills as a complement to the other degree courses in private and public law.

Therefore, the curriculum, based on the parameter of Common European Framework for Foreign Languages (Strasbourg 1998) will give the student the possibility to learn:
 Communicative competence - level B1/2 * –
 Micro-language of Legal English
 Legal and cultural aspects of the Angle - Saxon world through realia (authentic material) in the legal field which is deemed necessary for practice:
 The four basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing)

• The course is a pass or fail, but if it should be required, a grade equivalent can be obtained upon request. A1 A2 B1 B1plus

Programma esteso/course syllabus
The course aims to provide participants with the basic knowledge necessary for entering the world of International Legal English

In order to decode a text, the learner must understand the content of the reading material clearly; thus, the course aims to give the students the necessary tools to achieve this skill.

To satisfy that aim the students must obtain the following book:
International Legal English A practical course book for speakers of English as a second language. Giappichelli editore

Metodi didattici/course structure

MODULE 2 - 3 ECT – deals with :
 Decode/comprehend Legal English Texts and other readings
 Practice a Factual Text Analysis
 Write a paragraph in English
 Presentation using micro language of JURISPRUDENCE AT AN INTRODUCTORY LEVEL

The evaluation is based on:
 A compulsory written test to EVALUATE:
Grammar
Reading comprehension
Factual text analysis
The skills at paragraph PRODUCTION

 An oral exam
The student’s ability to speak English with a good amount of fluency based on topics from International Legal English a practical course book.
Special considerations will be offered to students with an 80% attendance rate during the course.

Each of the competences will be developed through language exercises in order to favour classroom discussions
1. Function: The Legal World - Grammar Objectives: Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, Prepositions
2. Function: A Lawyer’s life – Grammar Objectives: Past Simple, Used to/Would; Comparative form, Superlative form; Irregular Comparatives and Superlatives
3. Function: A Typical Day in the Legal Field–
Grammar Objectives: Present perfect simple and Past simple, Phrasal verbs; discourse markers; verbs, adjectives + prepositions; personality; Connectors
4. Function: Interviewing clients: Listening and Introduction to interviewing a client –Grammar objectives: open and closed questions; Do/Does; Prefixes and Suffixes
5. Function: The Art of Presentation- Grammar objectives: 0, 1,2,3 Conditionals

6. Function: Business and Company law - Grammar objectives: Past Perfect, Modal Verbs, Passive Form, Transitive Verbs, Intransitive Verbs; Passive Forms

7. Function: Contracts - Grammar objectives: Adjectives, Conjunctions and conjunctive adverbs

8. Function: Divorce, Woolf Reforms, Adoptions– Grammar objectives: Gerund, Infinitives, Prepositions, So, Too, Very Much, Enough.
9. Function: Law in a Changing World- Grammar objectives: Say, Tell, Speak
10. Function: Cybercrime and the Age of Information Technology - Grammar objectives: Will Shall Future simple
