Contents "LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE IN THE TIME OF THE ANTHROPOCENE"
The course will aim to sensitize students to the themes of landscape architecture, in the light of the radical changes that climate change will imprint on it in the near future: the rise in sea level and the new configuration of the coastline, the increase in temperatures and the displacement of housing demand towards areas with colder microclimates and predominantly mountainous character, the erosion of wooded areas, the modification of current habitats and soil conditions induced by periods of drought and water scarcity. These are just a few examples that highlight how much the architecture of and in the landscape, whether it is interpreted as an infrastructural device (geoengineering, solar, wind and waste disposal plants) or as a building on an urban scale, must be rethought through new theoretical and operational tools. .
Extended Syllabus "LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE IN THE TIME OF THE ANTHROPOCENE"
The course will aim to sensitize students towards the themes of landscape architecture, in light of the radical changes that climate change will imprint on it in the near future: the rise in sea level and the new configuration of the coastline, the '' increase in temperatures and the displacement of housing demand towards areas with colder microclimates and predominantly mountainous character, the erosion of wooded areas, the modification of current habitats and soil conditions induced by periods of drought and water scarcity. These are just a few examples that highlight how much the architecture of and in the landscape, whether it is interpreted as an infrastructural device (geoengineering, solar, wind and waste disposal plants) or as a building on an urban scale, must be rethought through new theoretical and operational tools. .
The course aims to stimulate and direct students towards a conscious acknowledgment of the change in future landscapes and the consequent need to introduce, within them, artifacts and architectures that can identify new ways in the inspiring reasons. operational for the project at the time of the anthropocene.
The course will be divided into two phases
First phase (February-March): “Architecture beyond the end of the world
so articulate
1. General introduction to the year's theme through a cluster of lectures on theoretical foundations and new application models.
2. External lessons The course will host 3 lectures held by renowned external guests
3. Application and experimental part based on creative practice interpreted as a design and analysis tool capable of prefiguring the new operational scenarios (use of drawing through its various digital and analog techniques).
Second phase (April-May):
1. Introduction to the role of the landscape architecture project as a tool capable of providing a response to contemporary emergencies, with particular emphasis on the climate. Through a cluster of lessons, the way in which the basic processes of the urban climate work and how these must influence a multi-scalar approach are explained, starting from the urban scale up to the use of specific devices.
2. External lessons The course will host 3 lectures held by renowned external guests
3. Application and experimental part based on the preliminary study of the meteorological events characterizing a specific urban context to arrive at the definition of new scenarios, with a view to a project experience that is able to integrate different disciplinary knowledge and languages.
Recommended Bibliography Bibliographic references will be provided during the course, at the end of each lesson. As a guideline, the following texts are considered to be foundational

Methods of Provision
Teaching Methods The student must be able to apply the knowledge acquired through both the study of cases and through application exercises that are able to test his knowledge, deepen his analytical skills, providing him with the scientific methodologies suitable for carrying out the tasks to assigned him. At the end of the training course the student will be able to: apply analytical and interpretative codes for the study of the evolutionary dynamics of the landscape in relation to the anthropic activities that have occurred over time; know the technologies and methodologies that can be used in building processes for improving the quality of the habitat; use IT technologies and methodologies for the representation (graphics, infographics and multimedia) of architecture and the territory; evaluate integrated landscape design processes associated with a sustainable transformation strategy of the environment with particular reference to materials, technologies and distribution systems; apply the principles of eco-efficiency of settlement processes and sustainable management of the built environment.
These skills are acquired by the student through a multifunctional didactic methodology that puts theoretical training in synergy with application experiences. In this way the student's ability to apply the acquired knowledge and skills is stimulated, increasing his ability to interact with other students and his ability to communicate the results obtained in public.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Periodic reviews of the proposed exercises and final exam
