Reading, listening and speaking activities with particular emphasis on English phonetics, the main grammatical and morphosyntactic structures of the language and vocabulary building of general culture and philosophy.
Extended Syllabus Course descripition
Module 1: LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION: 2 credits
The objective of this module is to consolidate and reinforce students’ grammatical and lexical knowledge of the language through a variety of written and oral exercises. Students will be taught the basic strategies for translating texts from English into Italian and vice versa.
Modulo 2: PHILOSOPHICAL ENGLISH: 4 credits
The objective of this module is to lead students towards an understanding of texts from the works of the most representative philosophical figures in Britain and discussion of their ideas in English. The exercises in the coursebook are designed to consolidate students’ skills for this specific purpose.

Teaching Methods Teaching methods
Class taught lessons with powerpoint slides and multimedia support. Organised group discussions. It is imperative that students bring the textbook with them to every lesson.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Course grade determination
Oral exam where students will be assessed as competent (with no marks given) if they pass. The exam includes a short dictation, reading and translation of one or more of the texts in the coursebooks and a discussion on philosophical concepts in English.
