Knowledge of modern and contemporary philosophy
Objectives
Contents The course will analyse recent ethical theories of the living aimed at rehabilitating the plant world and plants. In particular. the intelligence and cooperative activity that has emerged from recent studies in both biological and philosophical fields.
Extended Syllabus In the West, philosophical and moral reflection has long neglected to examine the plant world. A profound anthropocentrism, zoocentrism, cerebrocentrism has prevented us from seeing plants as possible active subjects, capable of action, behaviour and intelligence. The most recent research forces us to rethink the framework of man's ethical action, forcing him to confront the environment in general and plants. Is it possible today to place the term 'dignity' alongside the term 'plant'?
