The course aims to present the development of children’s literature and to analyze its main trends, as well as some of the most significant authors, who have defined its genres and characteristics. In particular, it seeks to highlight the role of children’s literature as a “source” for reconstructing and understanding the wider cultural and educational processes, as well as the educational practices, that have characterized our national context since the 19th Century. Through a historical exploration of the path taken by children’s literature and a critical analysis of anthological passages, the course also aims to emphasize the ability of this type of literature to serve as a tool for disseminating and universalizing many of the models, theories and values developed in the fields of pedagogy, politics and culture. Lessons also aim to enhance the acquisition of critical reading skills of sources and the development of reading education pathways designed for various educational contexts.
