BASIC BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES Integrated educational activity
Course Sheet Academic Year of enrolment:
Hours of classroom activity:
Prerequisites:
Mandatory attendance, no propedeuticity.
Objectives
Contents BIOLOGY
-describe the organization of the cells;
- describe the biological macromolecules;
- illustrating the structure of biological membranes and cell-environment interactions;
- describe the processes of mitosis, meiosis, duration of the phases and regulation of the cell cycle;
- within the structure of the Nucleic Acids, to illustrate the general characteristics of the DNA. Describe the flow of genetic information from one cell generation to another and describe DNA replication and repair. Describe the various levels of DNA organization in the cell. To illustrate the organization of the genome and of the extracellular DNA;
- to illustrate the general characteristics of the RNA, knowing how to describe the flow of information within the cell, demonstrating that it understood the mechanisms of Transcription, of the Genetic Code, of the Protein Synthesis;

Teaching Methods Formal lectures, anatomical drawings and pictures from corpses, pictures of optic microscopy slides, Pictures and videos from Anatomage, tutorials of practice on anatomical models and videos available on the web will be provided. Students will practice on the software Visible Body 3D, available in the University digital library.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The exams of the three modules take place orally. Possible in itinere intermediate test can be provided.
The student's ability to expose and explain the topics covered during the lessons will be assessed.
In assigning the final score, which will be expressed out of thirty with possible honors, knowledge of the topics covered, critical and communication skills will be taken into account.
The final mark of the "BASIC LIFE SCIENCES" exam will be the weighted average of the individual teaching modules's marks.
