The course will be dedicated to the introduction of the theoretical and clinical topics of the assessment procedure in clinical, health, and forensic psychology.
In particular, the following topics will be addressed:
- Assessment in clinical psychology: theoretical models and methods, assessment instruments, diagnostic classification. The process of clinical assessment: clinical interview, theory of psychological assessment within the framework of the different models of mental functioning, use of diagnostic information for decision making, description of the main instruments of psychological assessment.
- Process of psychological intervention: relationship building, case analysis, planning, therapeutic actions, outcome monitoring. Definition and fields of application of psychotherapy. Main psychotherapeutic models: psychodynamics, cognitive-behavioral, systemic, humanistic. Empirical validation of psychotherapies: levels of evidence and epistemological challenges. Common factors, therapeutic alliance, Dodo verdict. Ethical issues in psychotherapy. Mental health assistance in Italy: Law 180/1978 and mental health services.
