Objectives

Develop the ability to analyze and understand the dynamics and phenomena concerning the relationships with the other adopting a psychosocial perspective.

Contents

Relationships with the other is the topic of the advanced course of Social Psychology. The course will provide: 1) an overview of the main psychosocial frameworks concerning the relationships with the other; 2) the conceptual framework and the comprehensive theory of prosocial moral behavior developed by Hoffman.

EULOGY OF COURTESY (Examples and definitions. Facts or words? The courtesy. Rule of the worls. Intelligence and courtesy)
EMPATHY AND MORAL DEVELOPMENT (Empathy, its arousal and prosocial functioning. Development of empathic distress. Empatic anger, sympathy, guilty, feeling of injustice. Guilt and moral internalization. From discipline to internalization. Relationship guilt and other empathy limitations: Over-arousal and bias. Interactions and bonding of empathy and moral principles. Development of empathy-based justice principles. Multiple-claimants and caring-versus-justice dilemmas. The universality and culture issues. Implication for socialization and moral education)
THE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE OTHER (The person and the other. Elementary processes in the relationship with the other. Altruism and solidarity)
