Objectives

The course of Emergency in obstrectics and gynaecology contributes to the achievement of the training objective of the Degree Course in Obstetrics, providing students with the necessary knowledge for the diagnosis and management of the gynecological and obstetric emergencies. The students must acquire the knowledge related to the etiopathogenesis of obstetric-gynecological emergencies, and they must also learn the techniques of diagnosis and treatment of obstetric-gynecological emergencies through the application of diagnostic-therapeutic protocols written according to evidence-based medicine.

Contents

Most of the program of the course of Emergency in obstrectics and gynaecology is dedicated to the obstetric emergencies: the emergencies that can complicate the medical pathologies of pregnancy (diabetes, hypertension) and the obstetric emergencies of the three trimesters of pregnancy, labor, delivery and puerperium will be treated. The main gynecological emergencies will also be treated, with particular attention to the differential diagnosis.

GYNECOLOGY
• Genital bleeding
• Gynecological causes of acute abdomen (ovarian cyst torsion, haemorrhagic corpus luteum, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis)

OSTETRICIA
• First trimester hemorrhages: ectopic pregnancy, abortion, trophoblast pathology
• Third trimester hemorrhages: placenta previa, placenta detachment
• Preeclampsia
• Diabetic ketoacidosis
• Acute CTG alterations
• Shoulder dystocia
• Postpartum hemorrhages
• Vaginal operative birth (forceps, suction cup)
• Cord prolapse
• Uterine inversion
• Breech presentation

Teaching Methods

The teaching is structured in 15 hours of frontal teaching, divided into lessons of 2 or 3 hours according to the academic calendar. Frontal teaching consists of theoretical lessons and seminars held by experts on the topics covered.
Attendance is expected for at least 75% of the teaching activity.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The verification of the students' preparation will take place by carrying out an oral test aimed at ascertaining the learning, conceptual mastery, language properties as well as the ability to interpret and synthesize the medical knowledge acquired.
The evaluation will be expressed by means of marks out of thirty.
