Prerequisites:

It is advisable to have followed the courses and taken the profit exams of History of Philosophy, General Pedagogy, History of Pedagogy.

Objectives

The course is aimed to defining the role and aims of the Philosophy of education and at providing students with adequate critical tools just to make them understand the great importance of the philosophical reflection in the educational field and in the relationship with other sciences.

Expected learning outcomes.
Knowledge of the development of the philosophy of modern and contemporary education.
The ability to expose the knowledge acquired.
The ability to critically examine the historical evolution of Philosophy of education and the ability to critically examine the interaction and historical evolution of different cultural perspectives.

Contents

The course analyzes the relationship between philosophy, education and the science of education, with a great attention to the areas, boundaries and aims of the philosophy of education in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Extended Syllabus

The course analyzes the evolution and the articulation of the philosophy of education within the relationship with the educational sciences, focusing in particular on the following themes. - The concepts of philosophy. - The concept of education - The concepts of education and training - Introduction to the philosophy of education - Philosophy of education as specialism - Philosophy of education and science of education: evolution, areas and functions - Philosophy of education and modernity - Comparing thoughts and models - Philosophy of education and Pedagogy between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - The philosophy of education in the course of '900 - J. Dewey - models and the contemporary world - Themes and problems of complexity - Philosophy of education and educational professions. Philosophy of education and science. new posthumanist cultural paradigm.

Teaching Methods

The course consists of lectures, seminars and individual study. The planned activities can be supplemented by assisted study activities either / or by attendance at the conferences and study days.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Oral exam or written test (multiple choice items).

An oral exam of variable duration will take place, during which knowledge, skills and competences will be tested.

In case of written test, the exam is based on a multiple choice test (30 questions - 45 minutes)
