COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCES, DECISION MAKING AND NEUROMARKETING Single discipline educational activity
Course Sheet Academic Year of enrolment:
Disciplinary Sector:
Psychobiology and Physiological Psychology
Professor and Collaborators:
Hours of classroom activity:
Prerequisites:
As a prerequisite, the students are required a basic psychobiological knowledge.
Objectives
Contents The course provides basic knowledge in the field of Cognitive Neuroscience, with particular reference to aims and methodology of the discipline, and by focusing on the functional neuroanatomy of the main cognitive processes (e.g. language, memory, decision-making), in order to understand the nature of the mind-brain relationship.
By developing critical thought in both theoretical and methodological domain, the course provides the crucial cognitive instruments for a productive integration within multidisciplinary equipes.
Extended Syllabus The course will cover the following topics:
Introduction and methods in cognitive neuroscience
Sensation and perception
Language and thought
Learning and remembering
Attention and consciousness
Feelings and motivation
Decision-making
Social neuroscience
Neuromarketing
Recommended Bibliography Fundamentals of Cognitive Neuroscience (Second Edition) Authors: N.M. Gage, D.J. Baars. Academic Press.
Lindstrom M. Buyology: Truth and Lies About Why We Buy. Paco Hunderhill.
Scientific articles to be defined.
Methods of Provision
Teaching Methods The course contents are presented through lessons in lecture hall, taking advantage of power point slides (made available to the students), reading and discussion of scientific articles, and video.
Attendance is not compulsory but strongly recommended.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The exam is composed of two pieces:
Oral exam (learning objectives 1-3)
Scientific talk (learning objectives 4-5)
The oral exam allows to verify the acquisition and understanding of knowledge, as well as the ability of critically linking and integrating knowledge (learning objectives 1-3).
The scientific talk to public (professor and colleagues) provides for a critical presentation (in Power Point or other software, max 5 slides) of a topic chosen among those of the class (learning objectives 4-5).
The weight of each piece will be as following:
70% Oral; 30% Scientific talk.
Contacts/More Information It is possible to participate to the scientific meetings organized by the Laboratory of Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience.
To receive alerts, the students are required to send an e-mail to the address neuropsicolab@gmail.com , asking for signing up to the newsletter.
