Objectives

The purpose of the course is to provide students the theoretical
fundamentals of the psychology of language and communication together
with providing functional tools for the analysis of both verbal and
nonverbal communication. The course also aims to enhance students
critical thinking about how emerging technologies changed
communication and how these technologies shape social, political, and,
economical contexts.

Contents

The course will explore the main theories and models regarding the
psychology of language and communication

Extended Syllabus

The topics explored will be:
- human communication models;
- origin and evolution of language;
- the components of language;
- the link between language and thinking;
- the comprehension and production processes;
- methods and models for language analysis;
- the communication styles;
- applications of the communication sciences: social media,
organizational context.

Teaching Methods

The course is articulated in 48 hours, comprising:
- lectures with power point presentation,
- practical exercises (e.g., scientific articles' reading and discussion),
- continuous tutoring activity.
Attendance is optional.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

Written exam:
- 15 questions with multiple-choice answers (scoring: 1.5 point each
question, max score: 22.5 points)
- 1 open ended question (scoring: max 8 points).
Grades on a 30/30 scale.
The final exam will be the same for
attending and not attending students.
