Objectives
Contents 1. Introduction: Research tools and methods of literary criticism.
2. Focus: The Geohistorical Method and Gender Studies.
2. In-depth analysis: Analysis of the narrative text: "the character".
Extended Syllabus The course will initially focus on the institutional aspects of
discipline, examining moments and figures in the history of criticism in the modern age and making students aware of the main "tools" of literary criticism.
Subsequently, the methods explained will find practical application in the reading of the texts which will be the subject of an exegetical exercise, specifically deepening the study and analysis of the characters traceable in the narrative contexts explicitly indicated in the program and/or included in the Handout.
The analysis of the texts will also be conducted, using updated research methodologies, according to a perspective linked to gender studies and the problems of social inclusion.

Teaching Methods Frontal lessons in the classroom that admit and even favor the free discussion of the topics covered.
In-depth seminars with experts in the discipline from national and foreign universities, for which the extraordinary participation of NON-ATTENDING students is also required
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Oral exam. Students are expected to present the literary texts from the
reading list with reference to the critical discussion offered during the lessons and seminars.
Marks range from 18 to 30. Top marks will be given to students who achieve all of the learning objectives of the course.
The final assessment consists of an oral exam on the entire syllabus. The aim is to assess the students’ skills and in particular their understanding of the issues discussed during the course, their knowledge of the bibliography in the reading list, the correct command of the specific language as well as of critical and methodological abilities. The grading scale ranges from 1 to 30 with honours (cum laude): 1-17 fail, 18-21
sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with honours (cum laude) excellent.
Contacts/More Information Given the high specificity of the discipline and the topics covered, it is attendance in the classroom is highly recommended.
The presence of all students, including NON-ATTENDING students, is required at the proposed seminars and conferences.
