Detailed and in-depth revison of grammar and vocabulary building exercises with oral practice to improve pronunciation and help students acquire the ability to articulate phrases correctly at a medium-complex level on the topics dealt with during the course.
Extended Syllabus Course description
Modulo 1: Pronunciation and Grammar (2 credits)
The objective of this module is to reinforce students’ grammatical and lexical knowledge of the language through different kinds of exercises that lead to a clear and correct use of English. All main verb tenses will be covered as well as other aspects of grammar such as the use of articles, object pronouns, prepositions, adjective and possessive pronouns etc, besides word order and sentence structure. The module will also focus on students’ pronunciation through specific exercises from single words and simple phrases to more articulate syntactic constructions. To this end a knowledge of phonetic symbols is deemed essential.
Modulo 2: Reading and Comprehension of Texts on Culture and Civilisation. (1 credit)
This module, which is organised around the coursebook, will focus on reading, translation and discussion of texts concerning current affairs and socio-cultural topics with the aim of building the students’ vocabulary and reinforcing their linguistic competence in general.

Methods of Provision
Teaching Methods Teaching methods
During classroom lessons students will be encouraged to actively participate in oral and written activities on an individual and group level. These will include dictation, reading, translation and discussion of the topics dealt with in the coursebook. Lessons will include audio-visual material and the use of powerpoint slides.
At the end of the course students will be able to read and understand texts about education and the social sector and discuss their contents in an articulate way.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Course Grade Determination
Oral exam where students will be assessed as competent (with no marks given). The exam will consist in a short dictation, questions in Italian or English on grammatical points (if necessary), reading and translation from one or more of the texts studied during the course and a discussion in English on one or more of the topics on the final syllabus.
