Prerequisites:

In order to access this class, students need to have oral and written comprehension and production skills corresponding to Level C1.1 of CEFR for Spanish. In order to sit the exam for this class, students must have successfully completed Spanish Language and Translation I.

Objectives

At the end of the course, students will have acquired:
- the reading and oral comprehension skills, as well as the writing and speaking skills covered by the coursebook Trato Hecho and C1.2
- metalinguistic awareness and knowledge of the following areas of Spanish linguistics: semantics; pragmatics

Contents

The aim of the class is to guide students to the acquisition of level C1.2 of CEFR.
The course is split into two modules:
Module 1: The module focuses on the analysis and acquisition of the language of economics

Module 2: Students will be expected to develop a metalinguistic awareness and knowledge of the following areas of Spanish linguistics:
- semantics
- pragmatics

BEFORE sitting the final exam, all students are warmly invited to take the language proficiency test for level C1.2 (second year lectorship) offered by the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo (the lector for this level is Silvia Cañas). For any information regarding the lector’s classes and tests, you should contact the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo (information and contacts are available on the website cla.unich.it).

In the event that a student decides to sit the final exam without having taken or passed the language proficiency test for level C1.2, their exam will also cover the following (in addition to the normal syllabus):
- Two more novels among those indicated in the reading list (for a total of 5 novels)
- A test (written or oral, based on the evolution of the pandemic situation) assessing the linguistic and metalinguistic skills covered in the textbook C de C1, with a special focus on the chapters included between “I de Identidad” and “T de Tecnología”. Passing the test is a prerequisite for accessing the rest of the exam.

Teaching Methods

The course consists of: (a) classes held by the instructor(s); (b) practical sessions held by the lector(s).

The classes offered by the instructor(s) include both lectures (aimed at providing the necessary theoretical background) and seminars (with students' active participation).

The practical sessions with the lector(s) are highly interactive and are necessary to acquire the language skills needed to successfully complete the final exam.

For these reasons, attendance of both the instructors' and lectors' classes is strongly recommended.

SYLLABUS VALIDITY
The syllabus is valid for the whole 2020/2021 academic year (until the exam session of January/February 2022). For the final grade to be officially registered, students must have successfully completed all the parts of the exam by the last session of the 2020-2021 academic year.

NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS AND BEGINNERS
The syllabus is the same for all students, whether attending or not: non-attending students will autonomously revise and practice the contents and the oral and written skills included in the coursebook, possibly integrating it with the additional recommended reference material.
