It is preferable, but not necessary, to have a basic knowledge of history of Western philosophy.
Objectives
Contents The course aims to offer an overview of the most current issues of social ethics, with particular regard to those dealing with problems of professional ethics.
To this end, we will proceed initially with the analysis of the complex ethical-social relationships that are the basis of the profession of the Social Assistant, to try to understand them in the light of philosophical reflection, with reference to specific currents of moral thought. In this context there will be a clarification of the meaning and importance of the Code of Professional Ethics for Social Workers.
The course will then focus on some fundamental concepts of moral philosophy: Love, Human Dignity, Death.
Extended Syllabus The course will take place at different times:
- Definition of social service and importance of ethical reflection for the profession.
- Ethical aspects in social service and its values.
- Main currents of ethical thought of reference.
- Ethics in scientific theories.
- Professional codes of conduct, function and meaning.
- The Italian code of ethics.
- User rights and consumerism.
- Managerialism and role duties.
- Ethical problems and dilemmas.

The learning will be verified through an oral exam expressed in thirtieths, which will be structured through two/three questions regarding the different themes and books of the course.
