Objectives
Contents The course focuses on the study of European and extra-European economic development since the English industrial revolution; The major economic stages of the twentieth century will be analyzed: world trade from 1914 to 1939 (de-globalization); re-globalization between 1980-2000; the economic and political challenges of the 21st century.
The Italian economy between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Extended Syllabus First part: European economic development of the 19th century: a century of continuous growth. Structural changes. Rhythms, phases, growth models: conceptualizations and interpretative lines. The European demographic revolution and the new demographic model. Urbanism, migration and colonization. The transformations of the agricultural sector. England and continental Europe. The age of cars, coal, steam. The second industrial revolution: the age of steel, chemistry and electricity. The actors of industrialization.
National evolutions. Europe and the world economy and the great specialization. De-globalization. Re-globalization: the late twentieth century in historical perspective. Globalization at the dawn of the 21st century.
Second part:
Economic problems in the age of the Historical Right. From moderate growth to the crisis. The reorganization of credit structures and the consolidation of public finance. Economic expansion in the Giolittian period; Great war and post-war period; Economics and economic policy in the fascist era. From the African war to the Second World War. From reconstruction to the economic miracle. Opportunities not reached.

Teaching Methods The course is divided into 72 hours of frontal teaching which will cover
theoretical topics developed by the teacher.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The verification of the preparation of the students will take place through
an interview (oral exam) on the subjects covered by the teaching. The
final grade is based on a 30 -point scale.
