Notions of the history of pedagogy and the history of Italian and foreign literature
Objectives
Contents The course focuses on the analysis of the relationship between the history of children's literature and the history of educational and learning processes, and on the debate on the epistemological statute of children's literature, marked heavily by the pedagogic and educational theories of different eras.
Considering the diachronist development of European and Italian children's literature, the course examines the authors and texts marking the most significant developments, above all in the 1960s and 1970s, decades of intense experimentation and profound formal, linguistic and pedagogic innovation.
Particular attention will be paid to the educational role of images and picture books, precious learning tools for developing children’s cognitive and imaginative potential and for the early development of literacy, reading and interpreting skills among emergent learners. The course in particular examines the most effective book mediation strategies for planning educational programmes focusing on reading and promoting literacy both in and outside of school contexts.
A section of the programme, related to epistemological issues, the concept of early literacy and the child's cognitive, linguistic and narrative development, includes essays and study materials in English
