Elements of Descriptive and Inferential Statistics
Objectives
Contents Statistics are assuming a role of fundamental importance in forensic science and probabilistic methods and statistical inference are essential tools in the quantification of the evidential value of scientific clues. The course aims to introduce students to the applicative aspects of statistics in the forensic field, with particular attention to the inferential logic of evidence and judicial evidence.
Extended Syllabus • Uncertainty in forensic sciences;
• Elements of probability calculation;
• Random variables and distributions;
• Principles of statistical inference;
• Bayes theorem;
• Bayesian inference;
• Evaluation of the Scientific proof;
• The inferential logic in the evaluation of evidences and judicial evidences;
• The Bayesian Networks.
