Prerequisites:

The required prerequisite constraints are the completion of the Descriptive Geometry, Architectural Surveying, and Architectural Drawing exams.

Objectives

The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of the languages of architectural design and of the relationships that representation generates with the creative expression of the project and with digital techno-cultures, with the experimentation of the most advanced techniques of digital representation of architecture and of contemporary hypermedia languages, of parametric design and BIM.

Extended Syllabus

The course (Area Disciplinary Examination) is addressed to the students of the fifth year (cohort 2021-2022) and Out of Course (cohorts 2019-2020 and 2020-2021) who have chosen the Degree Laboratory in the thematic area "Project Conservation and Representation" and who want to elaborate a Thesis in Architectural Representation.
The course aims to verify, enrich and complete the preparation acquired by students in previous years with respect to the scientific foundations of representation, architectural and urban survey and project design, in its various forms, but also to the most advanced techniques of project communication.
During the semester there will be ex-cathedra lessons, meetings dedicated to theoretical studies, workshops carried out in groups and collegial reviews of the results produced. The course is intended as a design workshop in which students are asked to work together in the classroom from the first meetings, building the basis for the subsequent development of the thesis. From the theoretical point of view, students are invited to study in depth the lectures and to read the texts indicated in the bibliography that will be illustrated, commented and discussed in the classroom.
Three main options for the year's theme are presented by the lecturers in one of the first meetings of the course, offering students the opportunity to test their maturity levels with respect to 3D digital modeling and BIM:
1) The representation of cities and their management and regeneration processes;
2) The representation of the sustainable architectural project;
3) The representation of the restoration project and the valorization and communication of the architectural heritage.

Teaching Methods

The single subject course held by Professors Maurizio Unali (6 cfu) and Caterina Palestini (2 cfu) consists of a series of ex cathedra lessons, with the active participation of the students in the form of debates, and a series of graphic exercises in the classroom and at home, to be carried out individually or in groups of two students. These exercises will be related to the theme chosen for the thesis.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The oral test consists of a discussion lasting about 20 minutes in which the candidate presents the graphic works produced; the teacher asks questions related to theoretical aspects of the topics covered in the course and reported in the detailed program of the course. The test, as a whole, is aimed at ascertaining the levels of theoretical and graphic maturity reached by the student. It also allows to verify the communication skills of the student, who is asked to express himself with language property, as well as the ability to apply the acquired competences to architectural and urban design and restoration. The final grade of the exam will be expressed in thirtieths, considering the evaluations obtained in the graphic part and in the oral exam.
