The course is presented as a synthesis and in-depth analysis of the contents already presented in the Restoration 1 and Restoration 2 courses and is expressly dedicated to students undertaking a degree thesis in Restoration.
Objectives
Contents The course presents a guide to the student oriented to carry out the thesis in Architectural Restoration. The themes of the most up-to-date methodological debate will therefore be presented, in a multidisciplinary vision, which integrates the contributions of the chemical-physical sciences, engineering, historical and archaeometric disciplines. In addition, restoration sites will be presented, with the illustration of innovative projects and techniques to guide the student to the operational aspects of the discipline. Finally, contacts will be proposed with companies operating in the restoration and recovery sector, with the aim of introducing the reality of the professional and working world.
Extended Syllabus 1) Scientific methods and humanistic ones in the approach to the restoration and conservation of the built heritage
2) The protection system in Italy in the light of the most recent guidelines
3) Understanding the structural organism and its relationship with the restoration
4) The restoration project in the various areas of the built heritage: current trends through the illustration of concrete cases
5) Post-earthquake reconstruction in Italy: examples from history and from the debate on recent events in central Italy
6) Landscape protection in Italy: conceptual issues and realizations
7) Methods and techniques for masonry consolidation
8) Restoration, recovery, conservation: comparison with other European experiences

Methods of Provision
Teaching Methods The course is developed through a series of didactic communications and visits to construction sites and monuments or historical centers of importance for the discipline. The comparison with the operational reality will also be stimulated through participation in conferences and seminars.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The assessment will take place through discussions on reports carried out by the student on topics agreed also with the thesis supervisor and functional to the performance of the final paper.
