Knowledge of the main topics in history of Linguistics, Indo-European Linguistics and Theoretical Linguistics.
Objectives Contents Principles, methodology and results of Indo-European and Romance Etymology.
Extended Syllabus Historical Linguistics.
Title: Principles, methodology and results of Indo-European and Romance Etymology.
Contents: Goals and methods of etymological research within Indo-European and Romance fields. Case-studies will be taken into account, in order to exemplify different approaches to the etymological matter. Finally, examples of etymologically-based cultural reconstruction will be provided.
Recommended Bibliography Students will be provided lecture notes, consisting of papers and book chapters, dealing with etymological issues, which will be discussed at lengh during the class.
Teaching Methods Lectures will be given as classroom-taught lessons. Seminars and talks given by Italian and/or foreign scholars are also in order.
