Objectives
Contents The first year introduces the study of Modern Standard Arabic: alphabet, elements of grammar, morphology and syntactic notions. The course also introduces the Arab culture.
Extended Syllabus Alphabet, short and long vowels, definite and indefinite noun, roots of the words, use of Arabic Dictionary, noun cases, gender: masculine and feminine, number, separate personal pronouns and suffix pronouns, demonstrative pronoun and interrogative particles, nominal sentence, connexation structure, how to express the verb “to have”, regular verbs I form (basic form), syntax of the verbal sentence, verb Kana, adjective.
Cultural topics.
At the end of the course the students will be able to read and write elementary texts and conduct simple dialogues.

Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
At the end of the first semester a test will be carried out to verify the knowledge acquired in the first semester.
Final examination.
Written Test:
dictation, grammar exercises, translation from Arabic into Italian and vice versa;
Oral Test: basic interview in Modern Standard Arabic and grammar elements, reading, translation and grammatical analysis of short texts; cultural topics.
