Objectives
Contents The Architectural Composition 3 course aims to understand and design a public building.
Obviously this entails first of all being aware of what a public space is in general, its role in society, its role in urban design and landscape, its close relationship with infrastructural networks at whatever scale they are intended, its structure, its functional program, and obviously the aesthetics that will ultimately represent it.
During the course the teacher will try to deliver to the students input from different disciplines, from the most technical to the more humanistic and artistic ones in general.
Extended Syllabus The 3 architectural composition courses begin with a workshop that runs from 6 September to 11 September 2021, which has several purposes, including two main ones:
- introduce the topic of the actual course which will start at the end of February 2022;
- introduce students to the basic elements of the design of a public building;
The two courses A and B will begin with the activities leading to the final exam at the end of February 2022. Students will have the right to decide which course to attend based on their assessments, obviously aware of the fact that there must be a minimum of balance number among the subscribers.
Both are aimed at understanding and designing a public building.
Obviously this entails first of all being aware of what a public space is in general, its role in society, its role in urban design and landscape, its close relationship with infrastructural networks at whatever scale they are intended, its structure, its functional program, and obviously the aesthetics that will ultimately represent it.
In particular, the 3A architectural composition course will deal with the design of a building at the service of the existing D'Annunzio Theater, and its restoration.
The demolition of the Flaiano theater will be taken for granted, which stands nearby with an architecture of inexplicable banality.
The D'Annunzio theater, inside the D'Annunzio pine forest, is an iconic and very representative place in the history and culture of the City of Pescara.
The need for renovation, modernization and the construction of a service building to support it are a very delicate issue given the particularity of the area.
It will have to represent a perfect combination of architecture and urban and natural landscape, respect tradition without mimesis and useless reverence with the past, will take care of enhancing the D'Annunzio pine forest respecting it without shyness but with sensitivity and passion in search of beauty.
