Objectives
Contents The course provides an introduction to the study of German language and linguistics. It deals with the main phonetic, phonological, morphological, lexical and syntactic features of German. It also deals with the issue of developing students’ linguistic and communicative competences according to level A2+ (CEFR).
Extended Syllabus 1. Introduction: The German Language today
2. Phonetics, phonology and spelling
3. Verbs (weak, strong and irregular verbs):
- Verb tenses and conjugations: infinitive, indicative present, future, preterite, present perfect, past perfect, imperative, past participle;
- auxiliary verbs;
- modal verbs;
- separable and inseparable Verbs;
- verbs of location and direction;
- reflexive and reciprocal verbs

6. Compound and derivative words
7. Pronouns
8. Prepositions
9. Direct and indirect objects
10. Clauses:
- independent clauses (declarative, interrogative and imperative sentences)

Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Written and oral exam
Written exam: 1) grammar: multiple choice questions; 2) reading comprehension: multiple choice, true/false, cloze tests; 3) a short composition.
Oral exam: 1) listening: multiple choice, true/false, cloze tests; 2) conversation in German; 3) oral test (in Italian) about the content-specific topics discussed during the lectures.
