Extended Syllabus The course aims to introduce students to the main figures, themes and trends of the Nahdah, a socio-cultural renaissance movement that, starting in the mid-nineteenth century, involved Egypt and the Syrian-Lebanese area, and then gradually extended, in different times and ways, in the rest of the Arab countries. The course includes the analysis of the development of the Arab short story and novel, through the study of the major exponents of the literary and cultural life of the time, in Egypt and in the Syro-Lebanese area.
