Objectives
Contents The course aims to focus on the nineteenth-century literary in Portugal and Brazil, capturing the economic and social changes that occurred as a result of the Industrial Revolution in the century in which Brazil won its independence. The focus will be on the question of national identity, a central theme in nineteenth-century thinking, which in Brazil also emerges strongly in works influenced by literary currents of European origin, creating a completely new "literary métissage".

Teaching Methods The course will take place through lectures and the research and analysis of literary and critical texts will be stimulated.
In addition to the literary texts and critical essays, we will use the technological supports necessary to dynamize and interconnect the senses and the arts, the history and the life stories of the main protagonists of the Portuguese and Brazilian nineteenth century: power point; footage retrieved from the network; cinematographic collage, etc.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Oral exam, the outcome of which will be expressed in thirtieths.
