Contents The course aims to introduce the student to the linguistic and sociolinguistic study of European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. For this reason, elements of phonology, syntax and pragmatics of the Portuguese language will be presented to the student. In order to study the main sociolinguistic aspects of Lusophone variants, translation issues and communication fields, various material will be presented during the course (literary, technical-scientific texts and audiovisual material). The course aims to provide students with the terminological and technical tools to understand the main linguistic productions divided into genres. The teaching contributes to the realization of the educational objective of the course of studies by providing students with the linguistic and cultural keys to the development of linguistic competence in the L2, aimed at continuing the linguistic studies or aimed at creating a specific specialized professional profile in the Portuguese language.
An introduction to audiovisual translation with the subtitling of audiovisual products in Portuguese is also proposed.
Extended Syllabus During the lectures, students will be offered Portuguese linguistic topics and tools for linguistic analysis:
• phonetic and phonological aspects of European Portuguese (PE) and Brazilian Portuguese (PB), in a contrastive and theoretically supported manner;
• Syntactic aspects of the EP and the PB;
• Pragmatic aspects of the EP and the PB;
• Main sociolinguistic aspects of the EP and the PB;
the various aspects will be analysed in parallel with the analysis of textual genres in Portuguese and according to different theoretical approaches.
