Contents This course offers an introduction to the history of the German Language from the beginning of the 20th century until today: the language evolution from World War I and World War II to the division and reunification of Germany until the age of globalization. In this context, particular emphasis will be laid on the concept of pluricentricity of the German language (interacting codified standard forms, often corresponding to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg), as well as on a reflection on the main characteristics of literary language in contemporary German.
